I think being a curate's wife (as was being a vicar's wife) was more-or-less a full-time role in those days - anyway until I was born, in August 1951.
In 1954 Dad was asked to become the first vicar in a new parish on a brand new council estate, Woodhouse Park, in Wythenshaw, Manchester. We moved into one of the new houses. The new-build church was consecrated September 26th 1954 and my brother Paul arrived a day later.
I think it must have been a fairly tough gig for both of them.

Waiting for the church to be built Mum set up a Sunday School in a local GP's surgery.
Mum and Dad both learned to drive and they acquired a Ford Popular.
Mum did a little supply teaching, part time, after I started school.

1957 was a big year. Mum was pregnant for most of it with my youngest brother, Mark.
The family had another move, to York where Dad was to be the area padre for TocH. This was our home for 5 years.
Also Mum's uncle Jack (John Vest Garmonsway) was awarded a CBE and, not having offspring, he asked Mum to accompany his wife to the ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
